“I don’t have anything of value to sell.”
“If my work is so good, how come I haven’t sold anything?”
“I spend so much time on facebook marketing myself, and nothing happens!”
“What the hell would anyone want to read about me for? I don’t need to write content, I need to PAINT!”
Sound like you, or someone you know?
Here’s the thing, dear one: If you keep talking smack to yourself like this, you’re going to make it all true. No lie. You remember that old, overused-in-diet-company-forums saying, “If you keep doing what you’ve always done, you’ll always get what you always got.” Or… “The definition of stupidity is doing the same thing over and over, expecting different results.”
I’m here to tell you, entrepreneurship isn’t easy. And while a coach can help, you have to bring your A-game to the table, and be willing to bomb the everlovin’ crap out of all the negative energy you’ve built up around you. I know this, because I’ve lived it. I’ve been there. I’ve ridden the waves, in high tide and low, and speaking from experience, you only go high when you’re feeling it.
Part of the hardest thing as an artist, author, musician, or other all-around creative soul is that we tend to prefer to just “make” and have a hard time figuring out how to “sell”. Amirite? ;)
The biggest part of selling is the story, though. And if you’re not out there baring it all and telling your story, no one in this gigantamundo world is going to know who you are. No one is going to connect with you. Therefore, no one is going to even know about your awesomeness and buy it. And the cycle will continue.
You need to tell your story.
You DO have a story. Everyone does. And it’s what inspires people to connect with artists and creatives, especially. Don’t hide behind self-doubt, worry, fear of rejection. It’s gotten you nowhere so far, so just stop.
