Some of you may know that I’m also an artist in addition to all I do in the online world. (If you’re unfamiliar, check here, here, and here.)

In talking with some fellow crafters and artists the other day, I discovered that many of them are quite disconnected from the world of marketing themselves online. While I’ve managed large, multimillion dollar brands and a few probloggers, many artisans simply put up their stuff on Etsy or Zibbet and hang out on Facebook all day, promoting their stuff to others like them. (Which makes sense, in a way, but also doesn’t. Will explain this later.)

I’ve decided that I need to use my knowledge and ability to help these people. The economy is such a downer for everyone, and we’re all trying to figure out ways to make more money, sell more pieces, and get ourselves out there. But way too many don’t know where to start, feel overwhelmed with generic information, and don’t really have the confidence to get out there and do the things they should be doing. I’m going to fix that.

I’ve decided to start up a special e-course that I’m going to offer up for free. It will feature basic tips and tutorials on how to get started in real self-promotion (in other words, finding buyers OUTSIDE your circle of fellow artists and crafters). I’m not sure how long the course will go for, but basically every week, you’ll get real, honest, easy-to-understand advice with action steps you can take to increase your chances of success online with your artsy fartsy self!

NOTE: I’m expecting to start the course within the next week or so, but you can sign up at any time. Lesson 1 will be delivered to you first, regardless of when you start.

So if you’re interested, please sign up below and once you’ve confirmed your subscription (check your email) you’ll be brought back to this page. Please let me know in the comments if you have any specific questions or topics you’d like me to make sure I cover. Remember, we’ll be talking about things like social media, blogging, selling your stuff, and pricing. But if there’s anything specific you’d like me to make sure to discuss, definitely include it in a comment below!

Thank you so much! This is awesome, Lara! Hoping it might turn into a business for you! Woot!

Thanks, Terri! I’ve already got a consulting business set up to help people online, but it’s geared more toward people who are looking for specific, custom-tailored information. You can learn more about it here: http://www.larakulpa.com/speaking-teaching-work-with-lara/online-strategy-coaching/

What I want to do with this particular course is help people who really don’t know where to begin, or those who have started but are confused by all they see and read online. Sure, once they get started, they may choose to invest in the 1-on-1 stuff, but I realized there was a need just to help people get started and decode all the information out there, especially in the arts/crafts niche. :)

I am going to do Gardengate one better.  I am 69 and willing to learn.  Really want to promote this business.  I do Twitter, Stumble, facebook and I have a sad blog.  Think I jumped in with both feet and don’t know how to make the best of any of them.  Thanks for your offer to help, Lara.

  9. Debbie says:

Looking forward to learing more.  I’m very interested in finding out how we can use social media like Kaboodle, Stumble, Pinterest, etc to work for us, on top of the more well known Facebook or Twitter.

    • Lara Kulpa says:

Thanks for the suggestions! I’m definitely going to get into a LOT of social media here. It’s so important to use it properly, and to spend enough time where it counts and less time where it doesn’t. :) Not a lot of people know the difference, and I’m going to teach you how to. :)

Thanks for this offer, Lara – am on my way to completing my September tasks and will be ready on the lessons next week. Am sooo excited!

LOL “many artisans simply put up their stuff on Etsyor Zibbet and hang out on Facebook all day, promoting their stuff to others like them” this is so true. What we actually need are fans who CAN’T just go make it themself.

  13. WOW! Sign up was quick and easy. Thank you for your time and effort that you have put into this. I would really like to be able to drive more traffic to my website and find a suitable market. I would like to learn how to navigate twitter like tweeting on a “follower’s” page. I am going to wait and see what you have covered in this course. Thanks.

I’d like to learn more about
-using e-mail effectively. I have an e-mail list, but don’t know how often to send info, or what kind.-Running sales – do they do any good? -Outside marketing, i.e. adwords – how can you use these best? What kind of budget do you need to make it really useful?

Also, I have a Google Analytics account for my other shop – Zibbet will be getting this soon too, I think. Maybe you could tell us how to use this to our advantage? I have it, but I barely know how to read it. I suppose a “head-up” course on this could be useful to folks who will be using this for the first time soon too.

Thanks, Lara. This will be great.

well  here is another acknowledgement   I a 56 year old  girly geek.  I started with a computer the size of a washing machine and proud to say I had an original Apple and the rest is hispory.  I started with Prodigy (before INTERNET) in 1990 for email and bullentin boards and then in 1994 YIPEE ZIPPETY DO DAH  joined the online Chat, I was hooked big time.  I am a fellow crafter but have no idea how to market my craft other than the usual places like Facebook and Twitter and Zibbet and Etsy(not so much this last one), online chatting.   Joined Stumbleupon but don’t completely understand it.   Just did my first blog THIS WEEKEND but again have no clues how to promote that either (how do people get people to visit your blog?).  All I can say is HELP ME   help us all.

  17. Eleven33designs says:

I have an associates degree in marketing but marketing online with crafts is so overwhelming!

  18. Dana Strange says:

I signed up about four times, but I never got anything in email. I checked the spam folder, so I don’t know what the problem is. But I still want to sign up!

    • Lara Kulpa says:

Dana – it looks like you subscribed but then unsubscribed after the first message. Maybe you clicked the wrong link in the email?

I think I just “unstopped” it for you – let me know if you get any other emails in the next 24-48 hours. You may receive a duplicate of the first message, but then after that you should get all the rest.
